Ken Burns' The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer

9:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Beginning on March 30 at 9pm, Georgia Public Broadcast will air “Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies,” a three-part, six-hour major television event from preeminent documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, in partnership with WETA, the flagship public broadcasting station in Washington, D.C. Based on the 2010 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer by Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee, the series is the most comprehensive documentary on a single disease ever made. Georgia CORE joins national sponsors to support the series on GPB and will feature a new commercial during the airing. “The documentary covers cancer’s first documented appearances thousands of years ago through our modern-day battles to cure, control and conquer it,” said Georgia CORE president Nancy Paris. “We are thrilled and honored to support our partners at GPB as they air this groundbreaking documentary.” According to GPB, the series matches the epic scale of the disease, reshaping the way the public sees cancer and stripping away some of the fear and misunderstanding that has long surrounded it. Through Burns’ genius interpretation, the documentary tells the story of cancer as a story of human ingenuity, resilience and perseverance but also of hubris, paternalism and misperception. The series artfully weaves three different films in one: a riveting history documentary, an engrossing and intimate vérité film, and a scientific and investigative report. The series will air on GPG March 30, April 1 and 2 from 9pm to 11pm. More information on “Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies” can be found on www.CancerFilms.org.
