Georgia's Online Cancer Information Center

Captain Colon from the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia was busy in March!

4/14/2016

March 2016 was a busy time for "Captain Colon" from the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia! Every year, Rhonda Green, Manager of the Coalition's Community Cancer Screening ProgramTM, dons her "superhero" outfit to promote colorectal cancer awareness in an entertaining and nonthreatening way.

Captain Colon flew all around South Georgia to reach and educate providers and the public about the importance of CRC screening.  She personally visited with clinicians, staff and patients at numerous primary care clinics in the following counties: Baker, Calhoun, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Lee, Terrell, Tift and Worth. She also was present at public events such as the Peanut Proud Festival in Blakely, as well as in restaurants, banks, and other businesses across the region.  Captain Colon and her Cancer Coalition of South Georgia colleagues blanketed the area with informational posters and flyers - including at the large Georgia Wingfest event -  to teach and direct individuals to the Cancer Coalition for more information or to arrange for screening.

Finally, a video starring Captain Colon was produced and shared via social media as another fun way to reach the typically reluctant public. The video is available at: https://vimeo.com/160610955/f004764128; please feel free to share with others to encourage CRC screening.
