GASCO Annual Meeting, Best of ASCO coming up in September

8/13/2014

Registration is now open for the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology 2014 Annual Meeting and “Best of ASCO® Review” – a program licensed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology®. Held Sept. 5-6, the conference will be at the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead/Atlanta.

"We have had good feedback to our format of having our annual meeting and a “Clinical Think-tank” on Friday, followed by the clinical and navigation dual tracks on Saturday,” said GASCO Director Karen Beard, CPC, CHCC.” The clinical track will feature content chosen by ASCO as the Best of the presentations given at the ASCO Annual Meeting earlier this summer –the premiere international event for cancer care research. The faculty includes prominent researchers from Georgia and other renowned institutions who will condense the most relevant, cutting-edge science and education in their field of oncology. To keep its membership current on other important topics, the Medical Director from ASCO and Oncology Medical Directors from Wellpoint/Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia and Aetna will discuss important regulatory and payment policy updates.

Cancer Patient Navigators of Georgia will host the Navigator & Survivorship Track where participants will hear from a panel of survivors about the importance of patient navigation across the cancer care continuum. Co-founders Beard and Georgia CORE’s Angie Patterson will update attendees on the CPNG organization and activities. Additional presentations will cover unique lay navigation programs and specific aspects of navigation and survivorship, including patient communication, mental health, mindfulness, rehabilitation and exercise.

Additionally, Georgia CORE president Nancy Paris will address conference attendees over lunch on Saturday with an important update on the Cancer Research Community in Georgia.

Conference registration is free to GASCO physicians, clinical affiliates, administrators and Cancer Patient Navigators of Georgia members, and is $90 for non-members. For the agenda and more information, or to register for the conference, please visit the GASCO web site. For overnight accommodations, the conference rate is only guaranteed through Thursday, Aug. 14. Call the Intercontinental Hotel ASAP at (877) 422-8254 or by clicking on the link above.
