Dr. Vasily Assikis is a medical oncologist in private practice with Peachtree Hematology-Oncology
Consultants, PC in Atlanta, where he leads the Genitourinary Research Program. Prior to his work at Peachtree Hematology-Oncology, Dr. Assikis served as director of
the Prostate Cancer Translational Research at Emory Winship Cancer Institute, and assistant professor of Hematology Oncology.
His research interests
include the design and execution of clinical trials in urologic malignancies
and the education of cancer professionals on the merits of multidisciplinary
approach.
Dr. Assikis received
his Doctor of Medicine from the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, Greece, completed a fellowship in the Breast Cancer Research Program at Northwestern University Medical
School in Chicago, and fellowship in hematology/oncology at the MD
Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Assikis has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including the
2002 AACR Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Research award, 2002 Glaxo Smith Kline
Award for Oncology Research. He has lectured extensively and received numerous visiting
professorships. He has published over 40 articles, abstracts and manuscripts on
prostate and breast cancer. He is actively involved in research efforts focusing
on improved therapies for various cancers, and serves as the national principal
investigator for two ongoing trials he conceived.
Dr. Assiskis sits on the Piedmont
Hospital Institutional Review Board and serves as Piedmont Hospital’s Principal
Investigator for Atlanta Regional Community Clinical Oncology Programs.
